Our Governors attend training courses to support them with their roles as Governors at Southgate School. Listed below are the key training courses that are governors attending included details of which governors have attended those courses
Governor Induction
An understanding of the roles and responsibilities of governors, including their statutory duties. This includes:
- best practice examples of the work of the governing body
- an opportunity to develop your confidence in being an effective governor, including participating actively in governing body meetings
- an opportunity to ask questions and to learn from the experience of others

Safer Recruitment
Practical examples of best practice in safer recruitment information relating specifically to Kirklees LA. This training includes an understanding and raised awareness of:
- offender behaviour
- how to embed safer recruitment at every stage of the process, from job advert to appointment and beyond
- what schools can do to create a safeguarding culture
- the role of governors in this process
