How We Promote British Values

🗳 Democracy

This means everyone has a voice. We can share our ideas and make choices together.

⚖️ The Rule of Law

Rules are important. They keep everyone safe and help us understand what is right and wrong.

👤 Individual Liberty

We all have the right to make our own choices, as long as we don’t hurt others.

🤝 Mutual Respect

We treat everyone fairly. We listen to people and show kindness, even if they are different from us.

🕊️ Tolerance of Different Faiths and Beliefs

We respect people who have different religions, cultures, or beliefs.

The Prevent Duty

At Southgate, we follow the government’s Prevent Duty to protect children from radicalisation and extremism.

We teach children about:

  • Respecting others
  • Staying safe online
  • Recognising unsafe behaviour

All staff receive training to identify early warning signs and know how to respond appropriately.

If you have concerns, please contact safeguarding@southgateschool.co.uk and a member of our Safeguarding Team will get back to you.

If your concern is urgent, please contact the police on 101 or 999.

Online Resources

Below are some resources you may find helpful when talking to your child.

Learning about Free Speech vs. Hate Speech and Echo Chambers is especially helpful when preparing for life outside of Southgate.

These resources are designed to be accessible, supportive and engaging, helping you and pupils gain skills that empower them in both digital and real-world interactions.
